Stay alert-Malaria spreading in the city

Udaipur is now grappling with a Malaria outbreak, following Dengue crisis. The number of dengue patients has surged to 968, while malaria cases have risen to nearly 205, a stark increase from just 44 cases reported on October 22 last year. Alarmingly, around 50 new malaria cases emerged in a single day in the Dewala block.

Medical Camps Set Up for Testing

In response to the rising cases, hundreds of residents flocked to medical camps in the Ghata and Patiya areas. These camps were attended by four doctors from the health department, along with specialists from RNT Medical College and forensic labs.

Investigations into Child Deaths

Media reports have raised concerns about the deaths of 17 children over the past 25 days. A medical team sent for investigation confirmed the deaths of nine children but emphasized that the department is not prepared to directly link these fatalities to Malaria.

Long-Standing Malaria Issues

Dewla, Mamer, and Malwa ka Chora have been identified as malaria-prone areas for the past decade, largely due to the persistent mosquito lifecycle in these regions. Despite the onset of seasonal diseases, responsible officials failed to alert their subordinates about the potential health risks.

Rising Malaria Cases in Udaipur City

While departmental records suggest a lower number of malaria patients compared to last year, the reality is concerning. For the past five years, the health department has reported only four to five malaria cases in urban areas. This year, however, 20 cases have already been reported in Udaipur city, indicating an alarming trend that officials seem reluctant to acknowledge.
