MB Hospital earns Rs 50L as ‘other State Fees’ : RTI

MB Hospital earned Rs 49.80 lakh in “other state fee” from patients who came for treatment from outside the state. This was revealed in an RTI reply. Sawai Man Singh Hospital, Jaipur reportedly earned Rs 32.99 Lakh as “other state fees”.

RTI applicant Chandra Shekhar said that it was strange that Government hospitals in Rajasthan were charging “other state fees” from patients coming from outside state for treatment. Shekhar claimed that general hospitals charged Rs 750 per day for general ward bed and Rs 1500 for ICU occupancy per day.

MB Hospital earned Rs 49.8L from 954 patients who came from outside Rajasthan for a period till April 2017. Rajasthan Govt had started levying “other state fee” from January 2016.

The patients from other state said that they were being discriminated and forced to pay higher amount under the garb of other state fees. A Neemuch resident Jitendra Sharma said that they were forced to pay Rs 750 for a general ward bed in MB Hospital and this was much higher as compared to even private hospitals.

State Government on the other hand said that it is not a new move and it is essentially an effective implementation of Bhamashah Yojana with the objective of passing the entitlements to the right beneficiary.
