In what could be stated as one of the most shocking and ruthless incident occurred in the city today morning, a woman in her mid 20s died after delivering a baby on the roadside. No medical assistance could respond on time, despite being called several times by locals of the area.

The newborn was rushed to MB Hospital by the local residents of the area, while the mother died before reaching hospital. The incident took place at Gangaur Ghat today morning.

According to police, the deceased woman is unidentified and seems to be a beggar. She was seen lying near Gangaur Ghat with the newborn baby, whom she had delivered there few hours before.

Local residents of the area rushed to help her and called ambulance services many times. For nearly three hours, no medical team responded the scene whereas her condition deteriorated frequently.

Finally, locals arranged vehicle to shift both mother and child to the hospital, but the woman died on the way to hospital.

The baby is admitted in maternity ward and her condition is said to be out of danger.

The 24hrs service of government owned 108-Ambulance is on maintenance from 6^th June due to the change of contract.

When called Dr. R.N. Bairwa, Chief Medical and Health Officer, he said that the ambulance service is closed temporarily due to maintenance.

Bairwa couldn’t reply any satisfactory answer when asked about the newly launched ‘Janani Express Yojna’ 104- ambulance which is dedicated to respond pregnant women in rural areas.

According to reports, the baby girl was born around 6am with the delivery taking place near Jayethion ka akhada.
