With rising cases of Dengue and Malaria in Udaipur, residents are also facing fungal infections. MB Hospital is seeing a growing number of patients suffering from these infections. The symptoms of the infection include itching, ring-shaped red spots or pustular red patches, brown spots on brown skin. Risky symptoms inludes sweating, weakened immunity and poor hygiene.

According to senior dermatologist Dr. Sharad Mehta, fungal infections like ringworm (tinea) are common during the rainy season. Ringworm can affect the skin, hair, and nails. It is a contagious disease that can spread through contact with infected persons, animals, objects, or soil.

Types of Fungal Infections

There are various forms of fungal infections depending on their location on the body. Athlete's foot, Jock Itch (Tinea Cruris), and scalp ringworm (Tinea Capitis) are all related to tinea. Early signs include itching, burning, and irritation on the skin.

Avoid Self-Medication

A key reason for the rise in fungal infections is the use of  creams without proper medical advice. Dr. Mehta cautions that most creams from medical stores contain steroids, which worsen the condition instead of curing it.

Consult a Dermatologist

To prevent and treat fungal infections, it is essential to seek advice from a skin specialist or dermatologist, rather than relying on self-medication. Early diagnosis and proper treatment can help control the spread.
