Udaipur: The Rajasthan State Road Development and Construction Corporation (RSRDC) has stopped the demolition work of  Udaipur district's main maternity hospital. They want approval to build a new one. But this pause is causing problems. The hospital staff, pregnant women, and babies are struggling because of overcrowding and other issues.

Even though Rs 11 crores were spent and a lot of planning was done, the two-storey maternity building didn't meet safety rules. It had to shut down after just six years. Trying to fix the problems didn't work. So, the government decided to demolish it. They will build a new eight-story hospital, costing Rs 125 crores.

Current Situation

The maternity hospital helps over 18,000 women give birth every year. There is not enough space, so patients have to move around a lot. It is tough for the staff to move stretchers and take babies to the pediatric hospital because of all the problems.

The RSRDC, entrusted with the demolition task, has stipulated that they will proceed only if awarded the contract to construct the replacement building. This condition has sparked debate at the government level, as the standoff prolongs the agony for patients and medical staff alike.

The proposed eight-story maternity facility, to be funded equally by UDA and the National Health Mission (NHM), aims to enhance healthcare services in the region.

While the government talks about fixing the problem, it is really important to have a working maternity hospital soon. They need to act fast to help patients and make sure people get the healthcare they need on time.
