Walkathon marks World Cancer DayHundreds of people took part in the morning walk at Lake Fateh Sagar today to mark World Cancer Day. The event was organized by Cancer Center of Geetanjali Medical College and Hospital.

Holding banners in hands with cancer awareness messages written on it, the participants spread awareness about the deadly disease.

The walkathon was led by J.P Agarwal, Chairman of Geetanjali. Dr R.K Nahar (vice chancellor) and Dr S.K Mehta (Dean) were also present in the walk.

Dr Shankar, Radiation Oncologist at Geetanjali Cancer Center informed that according to Indian Council of Medical Research, everyday more than 1300 people died due to cancer. From 2014-2014, the death rate due to cancer was increased to 6 percent. Dr Shankar said that the patient should be mentally positive with an attitude of “We can do, I can do” to eradicate cancer.

A special cancer screening package will start from 2nd to 6th feb where tests like chest x-ray, USG, Abdomen and Pelvis, Fical occult blood test for men and consultation, CBC, Memography, Pap Smear Tests for women will be done in very reasonable fees.

On the occasion, a free dental check up camp was also held at Jagdish Chowk area by Dental Department of Geetanjali in association with Hindu Jagarn Manch.
