Radiography System Issues in MB Hospital Causing Delays in Patients Treatment

In state-run hospitals, including Udaipur’s MB Hospital, Children's Hospital, and Maternity Hospital, are facing significant challenges in their radiography departments, leading to delays in patient care. With an average of 7,000 patients visiting these hospitals daily, the strain on the radiography system is evident. Specifically, MB Hospital, which has sanctioned 80 radiographer positions, currently facing 55 vacancies.

Radiographer Shortage 

Among the 15 regular radiographers employed, 10 positions are filled through UTB (Under Training Basis). However, a concerning trend has emerged where the main radiographers shift their responsibilities to UTB personnel, leading to inefficiencies during duty hours. This work shifting has resulted in more than 10 admitted patients needing to visit the X-ray room twice.

Machine Malfunctions and Repair Efforts

The government has entrusted the repair of machines in state-run hospitals to KTPL Company. However, despite being notified of machine malfunctions, shortage of parts often hampers repair efforts. Consequently, local repairs done in many cases. Additionally, the intense heat in the radiography rooms poses further challenges, leading to frequent breakdowns in the machine.

Emergency Department Overload

Approximately 800 patients undergo X-rays daily, with the majority requiring services in the trauma and emergency departments. The Emergency and Trauma Ward, housing a number of patients, is particularly affected by the malfunctioning machines. With machines in critical condition, the load of trauma emergency patients falls on the limited functioning equipment. 

Radiographer-in-charge Rahul Dev has acknowledged the issues and reported machine malfunctions to the superintendent's office. Efforts are underway to address these concerns and improve the radiography system's efficiency.
