November 25, 2024 - The first death caused by the Zika virus has been reported in Rajasthan. A private hospital in Jaipur informed the health department after confirming the case.

The Zika virus is spread by the Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes. These mosquitoes typically bite during the daytime, increasing the risk of transmission. Currently, there is no vaccine or specific treatment available for the Zika virus. Most people infected with the virus either have no symptoms or experience mild symptoms such as fever, rash, conjunctivitis, body aches, and joint pain.

The deceased, Rajendra, was a resident of Jaipur. He was admitted to Fortis Hospital on November 20,2024 after developing a high fever. Initially, tests for common illnesses were negative. Based on his symptoms, a Zika virus test was conducted, which returned positive.

Rajendra's condition worsened, and he passed away on November 23, 2024. The hospital administration promptly alerted the health department.

Dr. Arun Agarwal, who treated Rajendra, stated that the patient initially showed signs of a common fever.

Health authorities are now on alert to prevent further cases.
