World record books have another addition from Udaipur. The city does have a lot to feel proud of.

IPL trophy on rice grain

Rahul Soni from Udaipur has been nominated for “Unique World Record”. A small grain kept in a plate may be visible to the naked eye, but if it has something like a bird, or an animal painted on it then it needs to be seen through a magnifying glass. It is totally unimaginable if we hear of a tree with almost 40 branches spread out with a bird perched on it and lots of flowers, too. This marvellous ‘out of dream’ painting has been proved true by Rahul Soni, a young artist of Udaipur.

He is a professional miniature artist and mostly paints Srinathji. Apart from miniature painting, Rahul also paints various things on rice grain, mustard seed, maize grain and even paints on plastic plates which are not more than 1 inch in thickness. He doesn’t sell these creations; they are a part of his collection. Recently he has been nominated for his collection for “Unique World Record”.

With the Tenth IPL gaining popularity, Rahul has painted bat, ball, wicket and even the trophy with golden colour on rice grains. He is also making portraits of the former Maharanas of Udaipur viz.Maharana Udai Singh, Maharana Sajjan Singh, Maharana Bhopal Singh, Maharana Karan Singh and Maharana Fateh Singh on 1X1 cm. thick paper. He wishes to make Mewar famous with his works.

Rahul’s inspiration is his mother under whose guidance he learnt to paint since childhood. He says that miniature art is an extremely difficult one. He pastes the mustard seed with glue on a paper and uses a magnifying glass while painting on the seed. The work needs to be handled with great care since any breakage would destroy the hardwork. After completion of the task, every piece has to be stored with extreme care to preserve it for long.
