12 tola(around 10 grams in one tola) of gold was robbed from an old woman in Hiranmagri area on Monday morning.

Just a day before PM Modi’s arrival in Udaipur when security is being tightened, an old woman was robbed of almost 120 grams of gold from Sector 3 Hiranmagri. The incident happened in front of BSNL office.

Three men posing to be policemen approached this victim around 10 a.m. As per Bhanwari Jain(60) w/o Sunderlal Jain resident of Vrindavan Vihar, she was walking towards home after visiting Jain temple. The moment she entered the lane in front of BSNL office, someone called her from behind. The caller told her that 2 men standing just a little away from her wished to speak to her. Bhanwari Jain went to talk to these men. These two men said that there was a police checking going on and asked her to take off her jewellery and wrap in handkerchief. The old lady trusted these men since they posed to be police and took off her jewellery and wrapped it up. She was unable to open the chain so one of the men helped her take it off. While she was trying to secure all the jewellery in the handkerchief, the men snatched the entire stuff from her and ran away. She shouted for help but by then the men had disappeared.  The jewellery was almost 120 grams in gold and worth around 3 lakh fifty thousand rupees.

Police is searching for these impostors on the basis of CCTV footage. It is being assumed that the men belong to Irani gang. When the lady was asked the reason for trusting strangers, she said that they had called out her name. One of them even helped her in unlocking the gold chain. They also had police Id cards. By the time she wrapped the jewellery, they were quick enough to snatch it from her. The man who called out to her was standing away from the scene. She realised she had been duped when the three of them ran away together.

A similar incident occurred in Dore nagar of this area. The impostors came as police men and robbed gold chain from an old woman 10 days back. Robbers even stabbed a vegetable vendor in Pratapnagar area.

Due to Prime Minister’s Udaipur visit, all policemen are on duty and the police stations are almost lying vacant. Robbers have taken this as an opportunity and have become active once again.
