Canteens are supposed to be the place for students to relax, discuss, laugh and share wonderful experiences of their daily life with their friends. However, Mohan Lal Sukhadia University seems to be not fulfilling these wishes of students.

The canteens of MLSU are not following the health & safety measures applicable to a canteen set-up. The cooks are neither properly dressed nor they wear gloves, chef’s cap or other hygiene gears, while preparing and serving meals.

Most of the canteens have kept the gas cylinders in open which is an invitation to disasters. Many colleges don’t even have a canteen.

Healthy snacks & drinks like milk products, fruits, juices, etc. is not less than a dream for the students of MLSU.

UT team visited canteens of various colleges of the MLSU and found them in miserable conditions. Following was the scenario and students’ versions on the current conditions of the respective canteens.

Arts College: The arts college canteen was closed. When asked the students they said, “The previous canteen owner was held by the Police in the case of theft. Since then, the canteen is shut. We are facing problems as we miss the canteen’s environment and get bore in the free time”.

Law College: The chef was not even wearing a shirt, was drenched in sweat and preparing snacks in that state. In a college specialized for Law courses, there was a complete absence of legal order. Main servings at the canteen are samosa, kachori and tea.

Commerce College: Here also, the chef had completely marginalized the safety measures with no gloves in hand and not even proper stands to prepare the snacks. Somehow, the canteen was a bit okay, as it had pastries and cream rolls to serve the students.

Science College: The canteen didn’t even have enough space for students to sit comfortably.

Admin Block Canteen: Last but not the least, this canteen located in the Admin Block of the University, right besides the Vice-Chancellor’s office, thrashed all the safety measures. The condition of the canteen was pathetic as oil was spilled on the floor and the utensils in which the snacks were being prepared were kept on the floor. This canteen puts up the worst rapport of University canteens, as it has maximum visitors throughout the day. People who visit the University, from the nearby Districts and even from other parts of the State and Country leave with that bad impression.
