Bandh Successful: Banks, Schools, Businesses Shut Down

With too much of mayhem and strong agitation, the nationwide Bandh against the government approved FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) has affected Udaipur as the whole city came to a halt today.

With too much of mayhem and strong agitation, the nationwide Bandh against the government approved FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) has affected Udaipur as the whole city came to a halt today.

Schools, Colleges, Banks, Public Transport, Commercial and Government organizations were closed down and those who chose to open came under strict remonstration by the group of youth rallying around the city.

Over a dozen of incidents of tyre burning and wreckage in shops, banks and State Transport buses were reported since morning. Amid tight police security, the bandh is considered to be successful in Udaipur.

Several reports of stopping trains and bus services were reported. A large number of BJP activists jammed the Udiapol circle today morning, a school bus was punctured and all government buses were stopped from being operational.

In another incident, a group of activists raided Udaipur Municipal Council’s office and forced to close the work. Oriental Bank (near Bank Tiraha), SBI (Bank Tiraha), Yes Bank (Lok Kala Mandal) and Allahabad Bank (Panchwati) among others also came under protestor’s radar.

The channel gate of Allahabad Bank was pulled out by an angry mob. Café Coffee Day (CCD) at Panchwati and Style SPA were also targeted by the protestors. The mob dispersed after police arrived to control the situation outside CCD.

A mass rally of Udaipur businessmen’s association was also carried out by the Udaipur Chamber of Commerce. Local leaders of parties including BJP, CPM, CPI and other business groups participated in the rally.
