A candle march will be organised today evening at Fateh Sagar paal at 6 pm to condemn the killing of senior Kannada journalist Gauri Lankesh. Gauri was known for her independent writing and fierce opposition of the Modi Government and the right wing organisations. Gauri was shot dead at her Bengaluru residence on Tuesday evening.
The march has ben organised by Aam Aadmi Party with the objective of making aware the larger masses about the incident and to condemn the same. Ashok Bohra of AAP said that Gauri was always vocal about democracy and raised concerns about infringement of individual rights.
Gauri has, in past, been a victim of political vendetta. It may be noted that last year, Gauri was held guilty in a defamation case that was filed by MP Prahlad Joshi along with his party associate Umesh Dushi over an article that was published on January 23, 2008. Gauri had then alleged that some BJP leaders in the region had involvement in a cheating case.
Candle meet organisers demand that persons responsible for this crime be arrested immediately.
Karnataka Government has already formed a Special Investigation Team to investigate the murder. IGP BK Singh is heading the Special Investigation Team.
