City Banks remain closed following strike

All the private and public banks in the city remained closed today in coherence with the strike called by All India Bank Employees Association and All India Bank Officers Association. Clearing House also remained closed due to which 9300 drafts worth Rs 100 Crore could not be transacted.

Bank employees and officers gathered at HDFC Bank, Durga Nursery road at 8:30 AM and closed the clearing house. Then they separated forming several teams which forcefully shut down several public and private banks in all the areas of the city. After this they gathered at Bank Tiraha Delhi Gate where they shouted slogans and demonstrated against amendments in Banking Regulation Act, Bank Privatization, Banking licenses to corporate houses and against leniency towards corporate defaulters.

Demonstrators were lead by D K Jain, Vinod Kapoor, B L Agrawal, Ravindra Mahindra, Pushpa Surana and Naveen.

In the assembly organized after demonstration, Provincial Secretary General, D K Jain said, “Amendments in the Banking Amendment Bill are against public interest; these amendments will strengthen the way to bank unification. Instead of merging banks, we must make way for expansion of banks and spread of more number of branches to the villages.”

In the end, Jain paid gratitude to employees, officers, press, media, police and administration for the success of this strike.
