Infamous for creating the most amount of pollution in the city, the tempos will soon be replaced with city buses under the direction of Collector Rohit Gupta.

In concern with the permit of over 1690 tempos that move between Delhi Gate to Udiapole, the collector ordered the Traffic Department to divert their route. Under the low carbon mobility plan study, this area was primarily highlighted due to intense pollution levels and these tempos were found to be the main reason.

Gupta said that one tempo traverses 6 times on this route making more than 10,000 rounds of these tempos collectively on this route. Due to this, carbon and other pollutants are getting discharged on an increasing level. He advised the police and traffic department to hike the frequency of city buses instead on this route.

The center has picked Udaipur, Rajkot and Vishakhapatnam for the low carbon mobility plan study. According to the survey done by IIT Delhi, there are more than 1800 tempos running in the city out of which 90% operate on the route from Udiapol to Delhi Gate.
