Building contractors of the Urban Improvement Trust (UIT) and Udaipur Municipal Council (UMC) have stopped work for an indefinite period in protest against a few orders and protocols, which they say are creating hurdles in their working.

The main point of protest is the new order of the Mining Department that instructs Contractors to obtain a Short Term Permit (STP) to get construction material. The Contractors demand revocation of this order.

Sanjeev Jain, member of the Udaipur Chamber of Commerce and Industries (UCCI) and Contractor with the UMC said that “Compulsion of Royalty on construction material received at UIT must be removed, since the material, including sand, bricks and concrete, which arrive at UIT are already ‘royalty paid’.

He also said that according to the ruling of the High Court, the royalty that has been taken earlier must be given back.

The Contractors also demanded that maintenance guarantee period must be brought down to 6 months instead of three years.

“These organizations will be responsible for any consequences if the demands of contractors are not heard,” said Sanjeev Jain.

In the meeting, UIT Contractors Union President, Siddharth Sharma; General Secretary, UMC Contractors Union, Harish Verma; Advisor, Ashok Intodiya; Patron, Harnam Singh Puri; Mahesh Bhavsar; Babulal Banjara; Rajesh Chouhan; Islahuddin; Ashok Porwal and other contractors were present.
