Corruption is the Main cause of illegal Constructions: Rajendra RazdanRajendra Razdan, activist and member of the lake conservation committee, told in an exclusive interview today with the UT Correspondent that corruption at every level of the government departments and influence of the Political Leaders is the main cause of the illegal constructions in Udaipur.

He said that few political leaders and land mafias are trying to show that poor people are affected with the High Court’s decision and targeting them in front of media, so that they might get some sympathy and favor in an attempt to cover their misdoings.

Razdan said that if he wouldn’t have gone to the Court then people might see multiplexes and residential complexes inside Pichola, Fatehsagar and Udaisagar Lakes.

He also said that some big business icons and high profile political leaders are not concerned about the ecological balance of the lakes. Their main aim is to get a piece of land near the lake and with their approach and corrupt government officials, they get permission to build a Hotel or a multi storied building.

He added that it has been made clear by the Court that constructions before 17.01.1997 cannot be demolished then why don’t people understand this.

Razdan told UT that Honorable High Court must freeze the constructions in the Active Zone of the Lakes.

Encroachments and illegal constructions will destroy the beauty of this city and the lakes are the life line of Udaipur. Tourism depends upon the conservation and protection of the Lakes and if the Lakes are conserved then all other businesses shall flourish in Udaipur.

He said that “corrupt people have defamed and targeted me and they are the main cause for not implementing the Court’s ruling”, he confirmed saying, “sometimes threatening calls are made to me but I stay firm on my work and dedicated for the conservation of Lakes”.

According to Razdan, the recent incident of signing the affidavit made him feel cheated. Although the issue was resolved after police intervention but it left a feeling of insecurity for him.
