Cyber crime-Are you a victim of online fraud?

Cyber crime is on the rise. If you become a victim of online fraud, do make sure that you inform the police on time i.e. within 24 hours of the crime.

There are positive and negative aspects associated with technology. People are still becoming victims of cyber crime. Regular circulation of news warning people to be alert is falling flat. Too many aged people and even youngsters are getting carried away by information given over phone or through messages. They fall prey to these fake links and people in order to become rich in less time or benefits offered are too difficult to resist.

Cyber expert Shyam Chandel, Udaipur, has appealed to the people to rush to their bank as soon as they get to know that they have been duped. Get the ATM card blocked through your bank. Report to the police with a copy of your latest bank statement. Take a photocopy of the report, your identity card and a photograph and submit these in the cyber cell. These details will help in processing money back into your account PROVIDED the money has not been withdrawn by the culprit. It is important that every person gets his mobile numbers updated in the bank so that every detail of transaction in the account is received. If the crime is reported within 24 hours, it is possible that the person can get back his lost money.

Important points to be noted

Do not fall prey to such calls. A wish that leads to greed can make you lose your hard earned money. Most important thing is that never ever share your bank details with anyone over the phone or through mail. Even while doing online shopping, do not buy from sites that ask for your card PIN. Do not give your ATM card number to anyone. Never give your OTP(One time password) to anyone. Be assured that no bank will ever call you asking for your OTP or your ATM card number or PIN. Your ATM card or debit/credit card numbers are updated with banks. They will never call you asking for the same.

People posing to be insurance agents having all your details might ask for your bank details over phone. Do not entertain such calls. No one can make your insurance policies without meeting you in person. Before entertaining any unknown agents at home, make sure that you confirm their identities with the local office.

A help line has been started to deal with cyber crime. Shyam Chandel has been selected in the Global Cyber Challenge 2017 competition held in New Delhi to fight against cyber crime.
