Whether it rains or not, Udaipur roads invite danger every time. With improper materials used for making roads, potholes are created either due to heavy transport vehicles moving on the outer city roads or due to rain water. Even the inner lanes are not free of potholes.

Our city starts enjoying good and smooth roads with the arrival of Ministers but the very next month the so called ‘cable line works’ dig up the roads creating disturbance for a long time to come. Cable lines may be important for some or the other reason, but leaving the roads in a damaged condition is something that needs to be taken care of. We read or hear of people losing their lives or limbs because of damaged roads. As per recent news beyond Udaipur, a woman fell because of a pot hole and lost her life when she was trying to come out it safely as a vehicle ran over her.

With too much of potholes in the city and rain water covering them up, risk to lives is the only thing happening. Goverdhan Vilas highway always sees a patchwork done which wears out very often since heavy vehicles run on it 24×7. With this road ‘torn and tattered’ beyond limit, it poses a severe threat during monsoons. Road right outside Gulab Bagh area which is the most frequented area by locals and tourists both also has been damaged by rain water once again. Mostly two-wheeler drivers lose their balance on the turn which goes from Gulab bagh to Khanjipeer. When water covers that torn patch, it becomes all the more dangerous as this is a heavy traffic area.

Road from Filter house to Ambamata choraha is also in a very very bad shape. Broken in a lot of places, the road becomes more dangerous during rainy season. It is almost impossible to figure out the potholes in this area.

There are many such examples where damaged road has either taken lives or left people crippled for life. It is a matter of deep concern. Materials used in building up a road seem to be of a very low quality. The city admin needs to pay attention to this as the condition of roads can result in a blotch on the face of the city which is one of the most attractive places on the tourist map of India.
