Facebook launches a new tool to block revenge-porn pics posted without approval

Posting personal pictures of the concerned person or with the concerned person without his/her approval on Facebook can be troublesome after strained relationships. Facebook will now be taking strict steps on complaints received in these matters.

It is very natural for people in relationship to click cosy images of togetherness. This becomes a hassle when the people move away from each other and hold intimate pictures in their mobiles or computers. Pictures of people who have undergone a tiff in a relationship and have decided to part ways cannot be posted on Facebook anymore without taking approval from each other.

A tool has been developed by Facebook which will now be preventing such images from going viral on the net. It will also work on other social platforms like Instagram and Messenger. It has been developed to stop any such image that spells “porn” and has been posted as a form of revenge.

In a press note, Facebook said that this tool will prove to be a security provider to its users. It also said that if a complaint is received in this matter and the pic is removed by the user in the meantime, then Facebook will issue an alert to the user reminding him/her of the privacy policies and will also make attempts to prevent that picture from being shared in future.

As per FB, 92 percent Americans have faced severe depressions in such cases and 82 percent have reported that they became subjects of social mockery due to such unapproved sharing.

FB has asked its users to register such complaints in their “Report link” after which it will analyse the content and if found crossing the boundaries of their community standard, such images will immediately be removed. Also accounts of users overruling the standards will also be blocked.

It is not yet clear as to how much such instances can be curbed, but a step in this direction will definitely prove to be of assistance in removing revenge porn.
