Department of Agriculture has become alert for the fear of locust attack on Mewar region is very likely to happen in the coming days. The locusts might enter Udaipur region with the wind heading from Iran to Pakistan following into West Rajasthan. The departments have become alert and all vacations of the officers in agricultural department have been cancelled.

Locusts damage the entire crops in no time. In the last fortnight, the locusts swarmed into Barmer, Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Jalore, Jodhpur Churu and Jaipur and all crops were finished within minutes. The locust attack has happened after a period of 26 years.

The officers are constantly in field to keep a watch on the arrival of locusts. These insects swarm the trees and plantations, eat up the entire vegetation and leave their eggs in all the areas. The length covered by the locust swarm is around 2 to 3 kilometres and they travel in such massive groups.
