According to the sources, the old city has a number of such fragile houses, which are likely to fall at any point in time, increasing the chances of life loss as these are all located in crowded localities of town.
The local authority of town, Udaipur Municipal Corporation is well aware of such houses, but eventually fails to take appropriate action against the problem, as most of the area falls under no-construction zone, while others are owned by low income group who cannot afford the cost of re-construction.
In information shared by a Corporator of UMC, Municipal by laws has a provision of demolishing such risky houses, for which a proper procedure needs to be adopted by giving prior notice to owners or dwellers of such houses.
In the words of Rajni Dangi, Mayor, UMC, although we have provision for demolition of such houses, but there are no specific clauses available for re-construction of houses; moreover the problem of re-allocating dwellers intensifies the problem.
