Illegal Soil Mining and Water Scarcity take centre stage in Zila Parishad meeting

Various issues related to water, electricity and illegal soil mining in lakes of Udaipur district were discussed in today’s general meeting held at Zila Parishad office.

Representatives from several village panchayats and tehsils took part in the meeting and informed about the problems that the people in their area are facing.

Meeting was conducted by Madhu Mehta, District Chief, Abrar Ahmed, C.O, Shamal Choudhary, Vice District Chief and Sudhir Dave, District Coordinator.

Out of several issues discussed, a lot of deliberation took place on the problem of illegal mining in lakes as well as the issue of providing housing facility to families under BPL category.

Zila Parishad members said that many small pond and lakes in Jhadol and Sarada Tehsil were subjected to illegal soil mining. The members also complained that this issue had been raised quite a few times earlier as well but no action has been taken yet.

Water scarcity in villages was also discussed in conjunction with the issues of lack of hand pumps, water irrigation facilities etc.

Following this meeting, another meeting of Planning Commission was held in the Zila Parishad Office. Key focus areas of this meeting were the issues of illegal mining and scarcity of water supply.

Officials were directed to present a report regarding issue of illegal mining and scarcity of water supply within next seven days. Meanwhile, members present in meeting informed about the condition in their villages and suggested multiple ways to stop mining.

Zila Parishad will write a letter to the Director of Mining to take require action for stopping illegal mining.

Zila Parishad will discharge budget after consulting the members. Rs. 35 crore Budget was prepared and will be given to state government and then to central government for final approval.

Additional budget was also demanded by members to solve the existing problems.
