To tackle the growing water requirements by year 2041, R.K Chatur, Ex-Chief Engineer from Irrigation Department has prepared a water management master plan for Udaipur city and the district as a whole.
According to R.K. Chatur the best possible way is to interconnect all the river and dams of the district, so that maximum rain water can be utilized for drinking, irrigation and industrial purposes. Presently, the rain water falls into sea via various rivers passing through Gujarat.
In his address to the local media, R.K. Chatur informed that by the year 2041, population of Udaipur city will be around 12 lacs, while in the district it is expected to be around 75 lacs. The total water requirements in year 2041 will be close to 734 mcm (million cubic meters), so steps for managing drinking water must be planned from now on.
R.K. Chatur in his plan broadly described the ways to connect dams and river efficiently. He divided the project into 5 phases in which water from various parts of the district will be diverted to dams and lakes.
The very project was also discussed with the district collector in a meeting held at collectorate this morning. The plan was also forwarded to the Irrigation Department so that it could be merged with the ongoing Devas project after proper monitoring.
