Udaipur administration must be in the biggest pressure right now after the court’s order to sweep off all illegal constructions and activities around lakes that are, from long causing threat to the city’s lifeline.

With the given deadlines by the High Court, city administration has hardly a week left to impose all laws strictly against the offenders, which include some of the top hotel groups, factories, residential areas, villas and bungalows and those local residents of city who are regularly pouring garbage, washing clothes and spreading filth in the lakes.

Don’t know what and how the administration will tackle this challenge, but today the condition is as worst as it could be.

On the other side, Lakes of Udaipur have often become victim of politics between all its governing authorities.

A residential colony is planned by city’s administration even after the land is situated in No Construction Zone, same is the situation with the hotel constructed at Udai Sagar Lake.

Regarding the guardianship of lakes, the ground reality is that Municipal Council says that they don’t have the possession or ownership of the lakes and put the responsibilities on Irrigation, in response, Irrigation department declines their liability for cleaning of lakes and blame Municipal for it.

Congress Councilors alleged that there were 359 issues of illegal construction during the period of Ravindra Shrimali but present chairperson dropped all the issues of previous board. Now, there are 400-550 ongoing unrestricted cases of illegal constructions.

According to Razdan, operation of pollution causing, Diesel Operated Boats in the lakes are illegal and putting private “Jetties” platform to get into the boat is an encroachment upon the government property.

Consequently, lakes which provide us water for our life are totally in deplorable condition.

When UT correspondent told a man bathing and washing clothes in the Lake that court has put a restriction on such activities; he said, “Who cares about the court’s order” and challenged if they have courage then they must come and arrest me.

With this mind frame of a local common man, Udaipur Municipal Council, UIT, Collector’s Office and Divisional Commissioner’s Office has a greater task ahead of changing the whole mind set of citizens of Udaipur.
