Keeping aside the pleas by environmentalist and nature lovers, UIT has started the tender process for commencement of adventure sports at Badi Lake.
In reaction to this, the members of Jheel Sanrakshan Samiti, Jheel Mitra Sansthan, Jheel HIteshi Nagrik Manch, Gandhi Smriti Mandir, Bahu Dhandha Sahkari Samiti, Mewar Angular Society, ChandpolNagrik Samiti and Dr. Mohan Singh Mehta Memorial Trust have presented a memorandum to the divisional commissioner to safeguard the water body from human intervention.
The memorandum states that the area is the habitat to Himalayan wildlife range, Mahaseer fish and other water plants that are known to have extinct from other water bodies across the state. If water sports activities are regulated at Badi Lake, they will cause hindrance to the water life and be a major reason of water pollution.
The need to include water sports activities is a good step towards tourism but it will affect the environment of Badi Lake and also, many such activities are being regulated at other water bodies of the city as well, states the memorandum.
