Udaipur Furnishing Cloth Association has demanded to eliminate Value Added Tax on few selected categories of clothes which was proposed by the state government in the budget 2014-15.

Udaipur Furnishing Cloth Association has demanded to eliminate Value Added Tax on few selected categories of clothes which was proposed by the state government in the budget 2014-15.

A group of cloth merchants gathered at Shastri Circle and marched through the collectorate in the form of a small procession. The representatives of the traders met district administrative officials and handed over a memorandum in the name of Chief Minister of state.

The traders put forward their view on introducing tax on selected clothes as inappropriate and will encourage number of other problems in the state including unemployment, corruption and loss for government.

Other points mentioned by the association includes, all neighboring states have not applied VAT on clothes. The new tax will create problem for both local administration and traders, before introducing Goods and Service Tax (GST), this new VAT is inappropriate etc.
