A new incident of dumping of waste at public locality came into light today at Bhuwana when the residents punctured truck which was unloading Jal Kumbhi (Water Hyacinth), extracted from lakes under Lake Cleaning Project of UMC, by the side of Mandop lake.

Reacting to the news quickly, Gram Panchayat ceased the truck and informed Municipal Council about the act; the truck driver fled away.

Seema Chourdia, Sarpanch Bhuwana Gram Panchyat informed that  “trucks of UMC usually unload Jalkumbhi during night, but today it was seen in the day time and was acted upon accordingly. Around 100 trucks of Jalkumbhi were dumped over past month on bank of Mandop Talab; smelling water waste is making locals hard to breath” said Chourdia.

Sources say that one such incident was reported earlier by the villagers, in which a tractor, with solid waste collected from the city, was about to dump the waste near Chitrakut Nagar but was punctured by the villages and businessmen of the area; a large amount of waste dumped by the workers at Rani Road was cleaned yesterday by UMC.

When the incident was reported to the officials of UMC, they promised to shift the waste on the officially allotted dumping grounds and requested the Gram Panchayat to release the truck.

 Lalit Kumar, husband of Sarpanch informed that the reason behind such illegal dumping is saving diesel by the drivers and low level workers, as they are being paid for the diesel on daily basis in advance.
