The board meeting of Municipal Corporation (Nagar Parishad) of Udaipur started at 2pm today, it was held with hustle bustle between ruling party (BJP) & opposition (Congress). In the discussion full of rift and tensions, Ward No. 4 Corporator Ajay Porwal from opposition announced indefinite hunger strike until demands are fulfilled.

The speakers included Rajni Dangi (Chairman of Municipal Corporation), Mahendra Shekhawat(Deputy Chairman), Balmukund Asawa (Commissioner) & Gulab Chand Kataria (MLA-Udaipur).

Major agendas and proposals of the meet included

1)      Verification of the previous meet, which was on 28-01.2011.

2)      Sanction of contracts for cleanliness in various wards of municipality.

3)      Financial approval of various construction works for municipality.

4)      Approval of 4 sided MOU proposal for heritage protection.

5)      Sanction of various decisions taken at Administration council on 28/02/2011.

6)      Approval of the payment of ad given in National Lake protection planning.

7)      Discussion on support funding.

8)      Selection of members in earlier formed committees, according to the article 55 of Municipal regulation act.

9)      Other proposals by the approval of the president.

Number of proposals/demands approved:

The “9 Agenda” list was discussed in roaring voices and high pitches between both parties. All demands were sanctioned except no.8 on which speaker Rajni Dangi expressed “If the opposition would misbehave, then I am unable to give approval for proposal no. 8”. So, agenda was left to be discussed at next meet.

People from Opposition & their major demands:

Major protesters in opposition were Ajay Porwal with support of corporators Ayub Khan and Ajay Singhvi. The main issue which was producing rage in the opposition was the verification of the previous meet, which according to them was skipped at discussion. The whole opposition was protesting it by saying that the ruling party is skipping the discussion deliberately so that their mistakes and mishaps can’t come under limelight.

Second major demand which was raised by opposition was the “Lease approval for Poor”.  Misuse of land issues were also on the list. The proposal of rescue boat at Fateh Sagar was also voiced in the demands.

Protestants from opposite party accused district administration of factionalism & doing just lip service to people. No development plan has been executed according to opposition.

Opposition growled: Announcement of Hunger Strike in the meet

Ajay Porwal, from opposition announced a hunger strike on the spot. On being asked his reaction he uttered, “Our main demand is that the board meet should be declared lawless and should be held again. First of all, we want the clarification of the decisions taken in the previous meet. Administration is not executing plans and not walking their talk which is not a good sign for the development of Udaipur.” He also said that there are 15 cases going against Deputy Chairman of Municipal Corporation, so he should resign on the base of morality.

Balmukund Asava – Commissioner expressed his reaction by saying, “I was promised that burning issues for the development of Udaipur would be discussed which did not happen. Chairman Rajni Dangi is scared of discussing the verification of previous meet, as it would reveal all dark secrets of the government.”

He also said, “I am happy for at least one thing that Rajni Dangi has now learned to deliver speech, but yet she has to learn how to work for the welfare of the city.”
