Once extremely beautiful, Rajiv Gandhi park on Rani Road is in a very pathetic condition now. It stands ignored as a result of which poles have become rusted and may fall anytime. Park lights have also been seen broken and scattered here and there. The park has stone idols of birds and animals but even these stand ignored, chipped off and also discoloured. A park that once used to be the centre of attraction for children for its swings, slides, merry-go-rounds and other such play things is now mostly abandoned even in the evenings.

The park’s beauty is not what it used to be. The area around fountains is full of leaves and hardly cleaned which spoils the beauty. Even the evening walkers of the nearby area do not wish to enter the park which looks like a ‘drought struck’ area.

The park once used to be crowded with people and resounded with laughter with the presence children enjoying on the slides and running around in soft green lawns. Now that it stands ignored, the silence of the park calls for maintenance. It needs to feel alive and it needs to fulfil the purpose it was meant for.
