Electricity supply is back in some parts of the city after an almost 8 hour continuous blackout in Udaipur.  The power cut resulted after a major fault in the northern grid that resulted in a total shutdown in Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana and U.P.

The Ajmer Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (AVVNL) kept people unaware of the situation by not responding to phone calls.

Superintendent B.L Ranawat said that “we are continuously trying to resolve the fault.”  Ranawat was at Debari site while conversing on phone with UdaipurTimes.com

Megha Joshi JEN said that “first we found a fault in the 33 KV late at night; the Gariyawas feeder is already started and other feeders will also start working soon.”

According to B.L Ranawat, the whole North grid had failed after midnight of 29th July.

Monday morning turned to be harsh for school going children and for many people from the Muslim community who wake up early in Ramadan to offer Sehri and early morning prayers.

While everyone was cursing the ‘power-cut’, the Udaipur Municipal Council had all the lights of their garden and outside premises switched-on in the morning. When UT informed them, officials said, “It was left switched-on unknowingly, as we were using generator for electricity”.

At 11am today, power supply resumed in many parts of the city.
