‘The air, water and vegetables are all adulterated. Adding to the woes is the problem of open defecation which is evident even in the city areas, especially on the banks of lakes which is a hurdle in the path of making Udaipur a smart city.’

The above statement was made by the environmentalists and activists of Jheel Mitra Sansthan, Jheel Sanrakshan Samiti and Dr. Mohan Mehta Memorial Trust during shramdaan at Pichola Lake.

On Sunday afternoon, the activists saw human defecation on open grounds adjacent to the lake after which Dr. Anil Mehta of Jheel Sanrakshan Samiti made an appeal to Lake Patrolling Team to completely stop people from defecating in open besides confiscating polythene bags from the area.

Tej Shanker Paliwal from JMS highlighted that it is required for home guards to be on duty at Lake Pichola and Lake Fateh Sagar from 5 AM to 9 AM for monitoring. Also, strict supervision is required at Brahmapol graveyard area to reduce the chances of open defecation.

During the sharmadaan conducted by the activists, liquor bottles, polythene, flowers, coconut, stale fruits-vegetables, household waste etc. were extracted from the lakes. Ramesh Chandra Rajput, Mohan Singh Chauhan, Ram Lal Gehlot, Ajay Soni, Lalit Purohit, GArima, Harshul, Riddhesh, Tej Shanker Paliwal, Dr. Anil Mehta and Nand Kishore Sharma contributed in the shramdaan.
