MCU’s board meeting was totally diverted on the issue, Should MCU assume the responsibility of cleaning of the lakes? Paras Singhvi (BJP) suggested that we should divided the Lakes into three parts and issue tenders for cleaning accordingly, like Fatehsagar and Swaroop Sagar Part I, Dudhtalai and Pichola Part II and Rang Sagar and end of Fatehsagar near Sheraton Hotel as Part III.

Singhvi also targeted Divisional Commissioner, for his regular visits to Fatehsagar. Paras said, “DC only has concerns for Fatehsagar and not for the other lakes”.

He added that Council has Rs. 1 crore budget for the development of Ayad River.

Rehana Germanwala (Congress) told that all the polluted water enters the lakes through link channels, so these channels must be cleaned up on priority.

Muslim Ali Bandookwala (Congress) suggested that a place must be fixed for the dispersion of Tajiyas and Visarjans, on which the house seemed to be unanimous.

Need to impose tax on Hotels

Gulab Chand Katariya (MLA, Udaipur City) and Ex-officio member of the Municipal Council Udaipur pointed that tourist who comes to Udaipur does not know that cleaning of lakes is whose responsibility but they only blame MCU for it, which is obvious.

Katariya said that cleaning of lakes is our utmost priority, but we need that some sort of income must be generated and MCU gets some benefit out of it.

He suggested that hotels adjoining lakes with more than 20 rooms must be imposed with taxation per customer and it should be mentioned in the bill that this amount has been taken for cleaning and preservation of lakes and the amount taken by hotel must be handed over to MCU.

Set up CCTV Cameras near lakes

Katariya also gave his consent for the setting up of CCTV Cameras near lakes and who ever caught spreading filth in the lake must be caught and punished.

Fishing tenders must be Banned

Gulab Chand Katariya also suggested that fishing tenders must be strictly banned fishes must flourish so that the lakes could be kept clean with natural process as well.

To put covering fences over Gumaniya wala Nullah

On the question raised by Muslim Ali, Katariya suggested that a covering fence must be placed on both sides of the Gumaniya wala Nullah so that people residing in adjoining lands are prohibited from throwing garbage into it.

In this meeting, besides Katariya, Rajni Dangi (Chairperson,MCU), Mahendra Singh Shekhawat (Deputy Chairperson MCU), SatyaNarayan Acharya( Commissioner, MCU ) and Pradeep Sangawat (OSD, UIT ) were present.
