Slum Dwellers Protest outside Municipal Council for Demolishing House

Kacchi Basti Federation, the organization backed by (CPIM) fighting for the rights of slum dwellers has protested after Udaipur Municipal Council pulled down a house located at slum area, Bhilu Rana Kachhi Basti. The federation alleged council for illegally breaking the house, without even noticing the owner.

Rajesh Singhvi, Ward Councilor and one of the activists of Communist Party said, “the house of Badri Lal Meena is situated in the slum since 1991 and he re-constructed the house recently. Municipal Council took down the construction claiming that it stands on ‘No Construction Zone Area’.”

“Even the water supply outlet is far away from Meena’s house, then how come they demolished the house”, said Singhvi.

Rajesh Singhvi also displayed photographs of the house and its distance from the water resource to the media.

Singhvi alleged that both BJP and Congress are different faces of the same coin; he said that leaders of both the parties have no concern for the condition of poor people.

“Some high profile businessmen built star rated hotels near the lake in past few years, however, the irony is UIT and Municipal Council targeting poor people’s dwellings for demolition; why there is double standard”, questioned Singhvi.

“People with high political influence and financial power have no fear of the administration”, concluded Rajesh Singhvi.
