Students oppose fee hike-JET fees doubled

Joint Entrance Test (JET) fees for Rajasthan Agricultural College has been doubled. JET exams by conducted by agriculture colleges where one college conducts for 3 consecutive years. This year it is the responsibility of Maharana Pratap Agricultural University to conduct JET exams. Students have stood in opposition as the fee structure has gone higher than last year. Even last year the fee hike was opposed, hence it was deferred.

As reported by students, the fees for JET in the year 2013 was 1400 rupees. This was raised to 2800 in 2017. Every year fee was raised in the name of expenses to the extent of 400 rupees per year. Students have claimed that the hike is not at par with the budget incurred on examinations. This is also difficult for the students who cannot afford to pay such an exorbitant amount and it becomes almost impossible for them to get an entry into agricultural colleges.  A demand has been raided to reduce the JET fees. JET has 4 thousand seats out of which 1100 are reserved for government colleges. Every year more than 15 thousand students appear for JET exams.

As per Vice Chancellor of MPUT the decision for fee hike is not yet finalised. He said that in case there is a hike it will be to the extent of 10 to 15 percent and number of seats will also be increased.
