Sweepers condemn Privatization of City Cleaning The street sweepers have strictly condemned the Government’s proposal of giving the cleaning and sanitation of the city to private companies. Street sweepers under the banner of Jan Sangarsh Manch held a procession and demonstrated at the Collector’s office.

According to the proposal, the Government has planned to introduce a new system of levying cleaning charge by including it in the Electricity Bill.

A group of agitated street-sweepers said that the State government on the one hand is recruiting sweepers in almost all Municipal Councils and Corporations and on the other hand they are taking sweepers under the contract system. Sweepers alleged that the contractors might exploit them.

Disquieted protestors carried out an effigy of Ashok Gehlot in the form of a mock death procession to express their concern.

As per the sources, there was no direct recruitment of the sweepers who are registered at the Udaipur Municipal Council since the last 16 years.

Area councilor Rajesh Singhvi said that people are already struggling with the booming inflation rate and another tax in the form of city cleaning service won’t be a good idea by the Government.
