A tour company has been penalised for not fulfilling conditions as stated in the tour package. A couple in Udaipur filed a case against Thomas Cook for not providing accommodation as stated in their international tour package.

PC Kanthalia resident of Nakoda complex in Sector 4, Hiranmagri, booked Europe tour for himself and his wife with Thomas Cook 5 years back. The journey was held between 21st June and 2nd July in 2012. As per the tour details, accommodation was to be provided in Hotel Park Inn or Quality Wembley in London. Instead, Thomas Cook made its guests stay in Yorkshire which is 40 kilometres away from the stated venue. Even in Paris, they were made to stay 32 kilometres away from the hotel. In Switzerland they were 98 kilometres away from the hotels suggested in the package. The package also consisted of a three-day stay in Engelberg but they were not even taken to this place.

Kanthalia filed a case with Consumer Form against Thomas cook for cheating with hotel bookings. As per Consumer Forum’s decision  in 2015, Thomas cook was supposed to pay 5 thousand rupees to Kanthalia couple against mental agony and 3 thousand rupees against court fees. Kanthalia appealed against the decision of Consumer Forum through Pramod Jhanwar, President of Maruti Seva Samiti.

Overruling the decision of Consumer Forum, State Commission penalised Thomas Cook Company to reimburse 50 thousand rupees each to the Kanthalia couple against mental agony.
