Udaipurites are becoming vigilant towards the use of helmets while riding two-wheeler. Out of total riders, 60% people are seen wearing helmets in the city. Although to avoid police inspection and fear of getting a challan, people are resorting to cheap helmets of low quality.
According to a local daily, the wholesalers say that the chances safety increases when you are wearing a proper, high quality helmet while driving. With the demand of helmets, shops at Ashwini Bazar are seen selling average 300 helmets a day worth Rs. 800 and more.
A decent helmet costs between Rs. 400 to Rs. 1800 which is ISI marked and light weight. Accordingly, a safe helmet should have a non metallic outer layer which is light weight and can take 10 kg of weight.
The inner layer should be made of polyurethane’s foam which also soaks sweat and doesn’t break even after falling off from the 2nd floor of a building. With flap inside, the wearer should not have difficulties in listening as well. Inclusive with belt, the helmet should be intact and give proper safety.
It is to consider that more than cost; it is the safety that matters the most when buying a helmet. With the usage of helmet, chances of serious head injuries lessen substantially.
