Residents of Saheli Nagar, one of the posh areas of Udaipur, are living on land which is awaiting registration from Urban Improvement Trust (UIT). For last 30 years, no action has been taken by any administrative authority to allot land pattas to 400 houses built in the colony.
Distressed with the problem, the residents communicated their message through local media and appealed that they should get patta in the ongoing government project ‘Prashasan Shehron ke Sang’ which will end on 15th Feb.
Saheli Nagar Vikas Samiti, the committee of residents which has taken the task of getting the patta, told media in a press conference today that for all the years, they had been requesting several ministers, administrative officers etc, “but nothing has worked for us till now”. The residents allege that UIT is misleading them from the allotment of patta.
They blamed UIT for not giving pattas on the basis of considering the colony under Lake Conservation Area and No Construction Zone.
President of the committee, Tejprakash Joshi said, “Saheli Nagar area has well built roads, electricity and water supply, telephone lines etc. The sewerage line is also proposed; then what is stopping them to allot us patta?”
He said that in the year 1997, the colony was put into No Construction Zone but in 1999 the judgement was revoked. “UIT has recently allotted pattas to at least 50-60 houses constructed near Fateh Sagar but it is behaving partially against Saheli Nagar residents”, he alleged.
