Following the concerns raised by animal care organizations over the brutal way of catching stray dogs, Udaipur Municipal Corporation decided to make a special monitoring committee to check that stray dogs should not face cruelty.

Claire Abrams, founder of Animal Aid Shelter said, “A meeting was held with commissioner of Municipal Corporation and a committee was formed that included a health officer from UMC and few professors of a private college.”

A volunteer of Animal Aid will also accompany the dog catchers who will make sure that dogs aren’t caught with the use of any pointed objects, iron wire, scissors.

Clair Abrams said, “According to the law, the dogs should be left free after vaccination or other medication in the same place from where they were caught. Beating a street dog is prohibited according to Indian Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.”
