The Drainage system of Kharol Colony locality, which falls under Ward#55, is on oxygen, literally. Residents of the area have to face difficulties while walking on roads, when medium to heavy rains cause water clogging in the area. Irregular cleaning of the drainage and sewerage systems are said to be a reason.
According to the residents of Kharol Colony, where majority of families are Muslims and need to visit closely located masjids, especially during Ramadan. Due to this water clogging, permanently outside homes or on roads, they are unable to reach the masjids in the required clean manner. The liquid waste along with the rain water makes their clothes unfit for offering Namaz.
The residents collectively reported the problem to Nafisa Saif, Corporator (UMC), complaining about the failure in maintaining required hygiene in the colony. Further, the residents also expressed objection over a marriage garden situated in same locality, which becomes a cause of undue disturbance in the marriage season.
According to Nafisa Saif, the drains of the colony are regularly swept along with sewerage channels, but due to descending mud and stones these channels gets blocked, which allows rain water to spread over roads. “Moreover, being a resident of the same colony I am also facing similar problems. Recently the access roads in the colony have been drilled for laying water supply lines, which have made the condition worse.
