Environmentalist and nature lover KP Singh has constructed this house with fibre and wood around a 90 year old mango tree.
Ensuring that not even a leaf of the tree is cut or damaged, the house is great example of architecture innovation while ensuring that nature is not harmed. The family members of this 4 storey house live alongside the branches of an ages old mango tree. KP Singh, an IIT pass out and a Civil Engineer by profession has meticulously constructed this 4 floor tree house, the base below, in and around being a 90 year old mango tree.
Even the furniture of the house that was constructed 18 years ago, is made up of the uncut solid branches of the tree. As per the owner, the age of the tree is 87 years and has a 9 ft diameter. The house built around the tree is approximately 3000 sq ft and is made of fibre, steel and wood.
Enveloping the tree premises was an ancients baadi(farmhouse) which was scheduled to be completely dismantled and all trees chopped off. Singh intervened and took possession of the mango tree, around which he built his residence.
Eliminating all objections and comments on his project in 1999, Singh took to building the house with a view to protect the age old mango tree. His project has found a place in the Limca Book of Records. In his interview to Gulf News, he said that people used to laugh when he told them about this idea of his. He was committed to his dream, he says.
The house, which is also supported by pillars, is nine feet above the ground and stands 45 feet high. The aerodynamics of the house ensures that there is negligible resistance to wind. No untoward incident has happened all these years.
When asked whether he designs other such houses also, Singh says that none who have come to him for such a project is able to meet all the conditions laid out by him (all non commercial)
