Vidyapeeth V-C Credentials challenged; Court orders investigation

Local court has ordered an investigation following the petition challenging the credentials and eligibility of Dr S S Sarangdevot, the vice chancellor of Rajasthan Vidyapeeth University. Taking cognizance of a petition filed by Prafull Nagar, court ordered the police to investigate the matter.

Prafull Nagar has challenged the claim by Dr Sarangdevot of having the requisite experience of 10 years as a Professor to be eligible for the post. It may be noted that Dr Sarangdevot recently assumed the post of vice chancellor for the second term on June 5. As per UGC Notification, it is mandatory for any applicant to have min 10 years of experience as a Professor in University or 10 years of equivalent position in reputed academic or research institute to be appointed as V-C of a deemed University.

Prafull Nagar claims that Sarangdevot was appointed as associate professor in Sept, 2014 and was appointed a Professor on Nov 21, 2008. Hence, he will complete 10 years as a Professor only in 2018.

The petitioner has also challenged the earlier appointmet of Dr Sarangdevot as he had less than 5 years of appointment then (2013).
