Lake patrol team is taking action against people bathing or washing clothes in lakes. BUT, administration is either unaware or negligent of the fact that waste from septic tanks is being dumped in catchments just 300 metres away from Fatehsagar Lake.

Septic tank waste is being emptied into catchments on Badi road which is just 300 metres away from the city’s important Lake Fatehsagar. Tankers from private vacuum septic tank cleaners were spotted dumping all the waste in the catchments despite the fact that High Court has issued strict directives for lake conservation and monitoring is also being done.

When some people opposed the act of dumping in the catchments, the septic tanker driver ran away from the spot. The spot at which the waste has been dumped goes straight into the catchment nearest to Fatehsagar. This waste flows into the lake during monsoons with rain water. This would not only pollute the lake but also line up the lake bed with waste. It may be noted that issues have crept up in the past regarding leftover food from the vatikas during wedding season being thrown in lakes, but administration is still negligent.

Collector Mallick said that this issue of dumping septic tank waste in catchment area is sensitive and is also a crime. Action will soon be taking against this act.
