Tree-guards installed by Municipal Corporation have become a topic of mockery in the city. These tree-guards made from bamboo are simply worthless as they do not protect the plants against animals and weather. In the past few days almost 150 such tree-guards were installed. Public has shown their opposition against these structures. Even Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria is against these tree-guards. Despite all the opposition, such tree-guards have been erected at areas of Residency school, Pensioners’ Society, Sector 12 and even the cow-shelter (kanji house) area.

Even last year, around 600 similar guards were placed which are open on all sides. There is enough gap between the bamboo sticks for any animal to eat away the plants. These tree-guards do not protect plants against stormy weather or rain. AEN of municipal corporation Madhu Shyam Choubisa said that these tree-guards will be covered by net later but as of now they have instructions to install these bamboo structures only. Park committee said that they have received complaints against the disadvantages of these tree- guards and iron tree-guards will soon replace these bamboo structures.
