Learning to read is about listening and understanding as well as working out print. As children start to learn to read, parents can play an important role in helping to keep them interested in books, finding out what interests them and helping them to find books that will be engaging and fun for them.
Children who read for enjoyment every day not only perform better in reading tests than those who don’t, but also develop a broader vocabulary and increased knowledge.
Regular library visits inevitably lead to more reading. Children will also learn about treating things that belong to others with care. Research shows that reading actually aids in brain development. Reading is also one of the best activities to provide foundational language and literacy skills your child needs to succeed.
