Sir Padampat Singhania University, Udaipur is organizing INSPIRE (Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research) Internship Science Camp a program of Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India from 6th-10th April 2015 for senior secondary students to promote research and innovation in Engineering and Medicine. Students across Rajasthan are participating in the Camp.
On 6 April 2015, the first session on Mathematical Thinking was taken by Prof. R. B. Bapat, Indian Statistical Institute, New Delhi. Prof. Bapat held visiting positions at various Universities in the U.S. and visited several Institutes abroad in countries including France, Holland, Canada, China and Taiwan for collaborative research and seminars.
He focussed on mathematical thinking as questioning of existence and uniqueness and demonstrated this concept in multiple dimensions.
The second session on Climate Change and Himalayan Cryosphere was addressed by Dr. A.V. Kulkarni, Distinguished visiting Scientist, from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India.
He explained the students about the role of greenhouse gases such as Carbon dioxide, Methane, Nitrous oxide and water vapour in the climatic and weather conditions of the Himalayan and its effect on the melting of the snow and glaciers.
On 7 April 2015 Dr. Kapil Dev Sharma Head, Technical and R & D, Greenfield Eco Solutions, Jodhpur briefed the students on Food Security, Water and Energy Nexus. He brought to light the importance of Water and energy for food production and livelihood security. Prof. SVS Rana, Internationally renowned Senior Scientist and Former V.C. Bundelkhand University Dept. of Zoology, C.C.S. University, Meerut delivered a lecture on the importance and significance of Biodiversity.
A motivational talk by Dr. M.K. Jain, Udaipur was also enjoyed by the students. The lab sessions too were organized for the students attending the DST Science Camp at SPSU.
The interactive and knowledgeable sessions were enjoyed by all the participants.
