Nirbhaya Day: Damini Completes One Year

A tragedy that took place in the national capital Delhi on 16 December 2012 stirred the entire human race. In India women are worshipped but what happened with Damini was heinous. She could not survive the tragedy but her strength to fight has spread a wave of awareness amongst all.

To mark this day, a special assembly was organized at Delhi Public School Udaipur to pay tribute to Damini. The assembly was conducted by the teachers in which they presented a thought, speech and a poem highlighting the importance of women in the society and the need to respect them. The poem recited by Hindi teacher was appreciated and applauded by all.

On this day all the Dipsites took a pledge to help, support and respect women. The emphasis was to make the students aware that government steps are not enough in protecting women, the society and every individual must come up and spread this message to respect women to prevent such heinous acts.

In the end, the Principal, Neeru Tandon said, “It is really very sad that in country like India where woman is worshipped in all the roles on one hand while on the other hand she is humiliated in this form. It’s time now to get awakened to fight such cancerous growth in our society.” The assembly ended with the National Anthem.
