PCCP section of Resonance Udaipur organized a 3 day “Rocket Making Workshop” at A-One School from 25th to 27th December 2014.

 

‘Rocket Making’ Workshop by Resonance concludes

PCCP section of Resonance Udaipur organized a 3 day “Rocket Making Workshop” at A-One School from 25th to 27th December 2014.

The workshop was conducted by O.P. Sharma from Resonance Kota who has been trained by the ISRO team in rocket making. It was attended by 75 students of 6th to 10th class.

On the first day participants were shown documentaries about “Life in space”, How astronauts prepare for space travel and a tribute to Kalpana Chawala.

The students enjoyed watching how life is so different in zero gravity while learning about various aspects of space programs. Students also learned about the rocket science, lift and drag acting on a rocket, Newton’s laws of motion, gravity, principle of momentum conservation, calculation of orbital velocity and time period of a satellite and the escape velocity.

After this O.P. Sharma showed various parts of rocket to the students and how to make them from simple objects like paper, hardboard sheets etc.

Then the students were divided in groups of 3 or 4 and rocket making kit was given to each group using which they constructed the model rocket. 6 groups with best rocket part were selected for making two stage rockets.

Participants completed their rockets construction and decoration till the end of second day.

The third day began with a lecture by Ashish and Pushpendra about the various types of satellites, how they are launched and the physics behind it.

Then a quiz competition was conducted for the students. After the quiz came the time for which everyone was waiting, the rocket launching time.

The whole school campus was filled with the cheers of excited participants and one by one all the rockets were launched by the students themselves.

Before concluding the workshop, Arun Shrimali and O.P. Sharma gave a short motivating and inspiring speech to all the participants.

Finally the workshop ended with the prize distribution to the winner- The Fantastic Four, the first runner up-Orion of rocket making competition and to winners of the quiz competition by O.P. Sharma (Workshop Coordinator),  Arun Shrimali (Centre Manager , Resonance Udaipur) and Brijendra Singh Shaktawat (PCCP head, Resonance Udaipur).
