Despite High Court ban on hill cutting in Udaipur, illegal activities continue; Hill Policy has been drafted by State Government but it is yet to be implemented
Udaipur, February 13, 2025 – Officials of the Udaipur Development Authority (UDA) yesterday, February 12, intercepted illegal cutting activities on the hill behind the Ramee Royal Resort & Spa in Surpalaya village. A UDA team rushed to the site on receiving information that some people were involved in illegal cutting activities on the hill there. As soon as the workers saw the officials, they managed to flee from the scene. However, the team took control of the area and seized two dumpers from the site.
The UDA team was led by Tehsildar Dr Abhinav Sharma and included Patwari Surpal Singh Solanki, Deepak Joshi, Hitendra Tanwar, Land Records Inspector Rajendra Sen, Babulal Teli, Bharat Hathaya, Abhay Singh, Abhimanyu Singh, Vijay Nayak and Home Guard personnel.
According to UDA Commissioner Rahul Jain, illegal activities were continuing in the region despite a ban on hill cutting imposed by the High Court.
The Lake Conservation Committee had filed a petition in the High Court against the regular cutting activities on the Aravali Hills, which resulted in the Court imposing a complete ban on such activities.
The Court had also directed the State Government to prepare a Hill Policy to ensure that proper rules and regulations were observed during construction activities in the hilly areas.
The government has drafted the policy but it is still awaiting presentation in the High Court.
